I’m not sure where to begin with this photo shoot because even saying it’s one of my favorite sessions ever would be an understatement. From the moment we pulled up to the abandoned house in the Indiana countryside, I knew everything about these photos would be special.
Greenwood, Indiana is only a 25-minute drive south of Indianapolis but upon leaving the city and entering Johnson County you’re greeted with farmland full of quintessential Indiana charm. It was driving through this farmland that Maggie Emerick and I found the perfect location for the dusty farm modeling session we had in mind.
It didn’t look like much from the outside, and the crumbling walls may have intimidated some, but Maggie and I were ecstatic to find such a historical gem for the shoot. Each room we explored presented us with new character and textures that brought each and every photo to life in a unique way. If the peeling paint and tattered fabric wasn’t enough of a perfect backdrop, the absolutely gorgeous lighting that greeted us that afternoon made the photographer in me almost weep with happiness.
We continued the shoot outdoors among an unruly pile of wood and some of the most beautiful tall grasses I’ve ever seen, despite them being overgrown and unkept. Maggie was an absolute pleasure to work with on such an unconventional shoot. Her gentle movement and natural ability to harmonize with her surroundings made this session truly unforgettable. I walked away from it knowing that some of my all-time favorite photos I’ve ever taken would be in this set and I was right. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
