I’ve had the pleasure of knowing some pretty spectacular people in my life. One such person is Laura, a fellow wedding photographer and childhood friend. Laura travels the country with her husband Dave and son Luccas in an old renovated school bus which I think is pretty freaking awesome.
Before heading out to the west coast for their first adventure, Laura and her family wanted to capture some lifestyle family photos showing their unconventional bus life and I was all for it! We shot at her parent’s home in Avon, Indiana about 25 minutes west of Indianapolis where Laura and Dave first met almost 4 years ago. They’ve both always had an interest in traveling and simple living so they finally decided to take the leap and buy a school bus to renovate and live in. The renovations took just over a year of planning and hard work, but look how incredibly beautiful it turned out! Everything about this little family and their home on wheels warms my soul.
Precious little Luccas was the star of the show during this session. His sweet smile and inquisitive nature captured our attention the whole time. I really wanted to illustrate the adventurous spirit that this family embodies so well, so we took photos inside and outside of their home to show both sides of this life they’ve created. Their life inside the bus is simple, organized, and purposeful but outside they are free to explore and open to all the new experiences that this lifestyle provides them. Luccas especially loves being outside exploring the world around him, and I can tell that his parents are cultivating his innocent curiosity wonderfully.
One of my favorite things about lifestyle photography is that I truly feel like I get to immerse myself into someone else’s world for a few hours. Since no two people are even remotely the same I come away from every lifestyle shoot with a fresh perspective on what it means to lead a fulfilling life. I feel privileged to be a photographer and work with such inspiring humans. I can’t wait to see where life takes you Laura and family!
